Carol Anne's Crunchie Choc Chip Cookies

Posted by Janice Bruce-Brand on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, In : RECIPES

Just a few weeks ago, I visited my Mom in Knysna, South Africa.  One afternoon, whilst staying at the farm, I came walking into the kitchen only to be greeted by the heavenly smell of cookies baking. I stopped dead in my tracks and my face lit up with a smile.  The smell instantly evoked memories of my childhood...  This is my mother's recipe, so I've called it Carol Anne's Crunchie Choc Chip Cookies.  This is an incredibly easy recipe to follow and is guaranteed to be "flop proof".  I made a...

Terrific Blueberry Tiramisu

Posted by Janice Bruce-Brand on Saturday, May 14, 2011, In : RECIPES

Layers of biscuits, mascarpone & blueberries, infused with Amaretto – this delicious Italian dessert is so simple to whip together. Make it in advance & leave it in the fridge for a few hours, this allows the flavours time to mingle, creating the perfect “pick me up” dessert – it’s indulgent, luscious & luxurious!  My recipe makes 4 individual desserts (I use whisky tumblers), or you can make one large dessert in an elegant glass bowl.

Chunky Chowder

Posted by Janice Bruce-Brand on Thursday, November 11, 2010, In : RECIPES

I absolutely love decent corn chowder, and with the unfriendly cold weather of late, a bowl of hot soup makes you feel good from the inside.  My friend Ev in Knysna makes fabulous chowder – here is my colourful chunky version, it’s so easy and so tasty, I had to share my recipe with you. (For a meat free alternative - leave out the chicken & ham, and use veggie stock instead.)

1-2 TBS olive oil
1 large potato, peeled & cubed
1 onion, finely chopped
2 leeks, sliced thinly
3 c...

The proof is in the pudding: Yummy Chocolate infused Hot Cross Bun & Butter Pudding

Posted by Janice Bruce-Brand on Friday, October 29, 2010, In : RECIPES

Last night we had supper at Richard’s parents, I kindly offered to take along a pudding of some kind. I took advantage of the cold weather and decided to make a variation of Bread and Butter Pudding.  (While in Tesco's recently, I noticed that Hot Cross Buns are available all year round over here, not only at Easter, which gives me immense pleasure!)

I took a quick photo when it came out the oven - the most amazing and totally irresistible spicy, sweet, chocolaty aroma filled my nostrils... ...

Just Married & Living the good life in London

Janice Bruce-Brand Hi, I'm Janice. I am not a chef, and I am not a photographer - but I love cooking, eating and taking photographs. My mother is a great cook and this is probably where my love for food began. A few years ago, she opened up her own little restaurant in the quaint farming hamlet where I spent roughly 20 years of my youth! By creating this blog, I hope to share with you my curiosity for just about everything in life that relates to food. Those who know me are aware of just how much I love to document my trips and travels. I hope you'll join me for the ride... I promise to keep you suitably entertained (and perhaps even drooling at times!)
